Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between counseling and therapy?
The terms can and often are used interchangeably. Counseling tends to focus more on management of day-to-day issues that are inhibiting flourishing. Therapy tends to address issues at their roots so that long-term change is possible.
Do I have to be Catholic to receive services from Veritas Counseling, LLC?
You do not need to be Catholic to receive services from Veritas Counseling. We are a Catholic practice that aligns with the Magisterium (teaching) of the Church. We welcome all clients, regardless of faith background/tradition to work with us. Faith is never forced, and our approach is one of meeting you where you are in your own journey.
What does faith-based counseling look like?
At a “big picture” level, faith-based counseling approaches and understands the client and his/her struggles/challenges from the lens of being created by God, in His image. God designed us specifically and intentionally. True, authentic healing comes from realigning ourselves with this God-given purpose and design. In the counseling room, this might be translated to praying, referring to Scripture, and connecting with spiritual resources (community, specific prayer devotions, etc.). This is always a part of the conversation in the beginning phase of counseling, and clients have the opportunity to consent to faith-based counseling modalities/interventions.
Do you take insurance?
Veritas Counseling, LLC is an out-of-network provider, meaning that we are not paneled with insurance companies. Your care is important to us, and we find that utilizing a cash payment system best helps us to prioritize this. We recognize that mental health care is an investment in your own growth (and, by extension, your friends, family, and community), and we seek to make mental health care financially accessible. With that in mind, we invite you to use the free out-of-network benefits calculator on our Services tab to determine how you might be able to utilize your insurance’s out-of-network benefits to help offset the cost of services. Veritas Counseling, LLC partners with Thrizer to submit/help you submit “super bills” to your insurance company. Veritas Counseling, LLC cannot guarantee that you will be able to utilize these benefits, as they vary by insurance company.
How long can I expect to be in counseling?
This varies depending on the person and their presenting issues, as well as their protective factors (think social supports, already established coping skills, etc.). We can accommodate short-term counseling for acute concerns and long-term therapy for more intensive work. Regardless of what has led you to seek help, the goal for every client is to get to the place where counseling/therapy is no longer required (because you’re crushing it!). That being said, services could be resumed in the future, if ever needed.
